Hedge fund icon Arthur “Art” J. Samberg serves on the executive committee and board of trustees at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Art Samberg donated $25 million to the NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, to establish the Samberg Scholars in Children’s Health. Over five years, the gift will support patient care practices and clinical research for up to 40 pediatricians.

The funding enables the hospital to sustain, retain, and recruit outstanding pediatric medical practitioners. A Samberg Scholar can allocate more resources to clinical research or recruit a nurse or clinical fellow. To qualify as a scholar, the pediatric physician or pediatric sub-specialist physician must have a record of outstanding patient care and pass additional criteria in expertise, leadership, teaching, and community dedication.

The 10 inaugural Samberg Scholars were announced in January 2013. Their fields of expertise included child abuse and neglect, adolescent medicine, rheumatism, orthopedic surgery, nephrology, and general pediatrics.

The former chairman and CEO of Pequot Capital Management, Inc., a role he served in for a decade, Art J. Samberg is an investor and entrepreneur who currently owns Hawkes Financial, LLC. Through this New York-headquartered family office, he invests in the health care, technology, and alternative energy industries.

A former student of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and chairman of the MIT Investment Management Company Board, Art Samberg, alongside his wife Rebecca, was honored with the creation of a new conference center in February 2016 following a donation to the school.

Built as part of a renovation program that will reinvigorate the historic Morris and Sophie Chang Building, the Samberg Conference Center will feature a rooftop addition enclosed in glass, offering stunning views of the Boston skyline and Charles River. The center will act as a gathering point for members of the institute’s community and will mostly be used for special events, conferences, and meetings.
